Common questions

FAQs.

What's the auditor primarily testing when reviewing accounting policies?
That the policies disclosed are actually the ones applied — consistency between disclosure and practice — that they comply with the applicable framework (Ind AS or AS), and that any change from the prior year is disclosed along with its financial impact.
When is a change in accounting policy permitted?
Only if required by a standard, or if it results in more relevant and reliable information — a policy change made purely to improve reported results, without that justification, isn't appropriate under Ind AS 8 / AS 5.
How does this connect to the notes-to-accounts working paper?
The accounting policies note is itself one of the notes to accounts — this working paper evidences the substance behind that specific note, while the notes-to-accounts working paper covers the full set of disclosures.
