Common questions

FAQs.

What should an experience certificate contain?
The company name and address, the date of issue, the employee name, designation and department, the joining and last working dates, a short note on responsibilities, and the signature of an authorised person on company letterhead. Keep it factual and consistent with the records.
What is the difference between an experience certificate and a relieving letter?
An experience certificate confirms the work the employee did and the period of service. A relieving letter confirms that the resignation was accepted and the employee has been released from the company with dues settled. Employers commonly issue both when someone leaves.
Is an employer legally required to issue an experience certificate?
There is no single provision that covers every employer, and the position can depend on the employment contract, the company policy and the applicable state law. Most employers issue one as standard practice. Check the employment contract and the applicable rules if there is a dispute.
Should salary be mentioned?
Not ordinarily. An experience certificate speaks about role and tenure. Salary details are usually shown on salary slips or a separate salary certificate, issued at the employee request.
