Notes: depreciation is on the written down value of the block. An asset put to use for less than 180 days in the year attracts depreciation at half the normal rate for that year. Enter the rate for each block from the Rules. For AY 2026-27 the 1961 Act and its Rules apply. Confirm the current law, rule or form before you rely on this for a specific client.

Common questions

FAQs.

What is a block of assets?
A group of assets of the same class with the same rate of depreciation. Depreciation is computed on the block, not on each asset.
Why split additions by 180 days?
An asset used for less than 180 days in the year gets depreciation at half the normal rate for that year.
How does this differ from book depreciation?
Book depreciation follows the accounting standard and the useful lives you adopt. Tax depreciation follows the Act and its rates. The difference is a reconciling item for deferred tax.
