Enter your internal audit numbers for the period and your own targets. The tool calculates plan completion, findings closure, overdue share, hours against budget and report timeliness, and shows which are on target.
Take the numbers from your audit plan tracker and findings log for the same period. Keep the counting rules the same from one period to the next.
| KPI | Result % | Target % | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plan completion | 70.8 | >= 80 | Off target |
| Findings closure rate | 66.1 | >= 75 | Off target |
| High-rated findings closure rate | 55.6 | >= 90 | Off target |
| Overdue share of open findings | 38.1 | <= 10 | Off target |
| Hours used against budget | 86.9 | >= 90 | Off target |
| Reports issued on time | 76.5 | >= 85 | Off target |
Targets are yours. Use those agreed with the audit committee or in the internal audit charter, and avoid changing them mid-year without recording why.
Completion on its own can look healthy while findings pile up unresolved. Closure rate shows whether action follows the reports, and the overdue share shows whether management dates are being kept. Hours against budget and report timeliness show how the function itself is running. Read the set together and compare with the previous period. A single percentage tells you very little.
Plan completion is audits completed over audits in the plan. Findings closure is findings closed over findings raised, and high-rated closure uses only the high-rated ones. Open findings are raised less closed, and the overdue share is overdue findings over open findings.
Hours used is actual over budgeted hours. Report timeliness is reports issued within your target time over reports issued.
Each KPI is compared with the target you enter. Most targets are minimums, but the overdue share is a maximum.
24 audits in the plan, 17 completed, with a target of at least 80%.
