Common questions

FAQs.

What should a salary certificate contain?
The company name and address, the date, the employee name, designation and date of joining, the monthly salary broken into basic, allowances and deductions, the purpose, and the signature of an authorised person on company letterhead.
What is the difference between a salary certificate and a salary slip?
A salary slip is the payroll record for one month. A salary certificate is a letter from the employer confirming the employee and the salary, usually for a third party such as a bank or an embassy. The certificate should agree with the slips.
Is a salary certificate the same as Form 16?
No. Form 16 is the certificate of tax deducted at source on salary, issued after the end of the financial year. A salary certificate confirms employment and pay and can be issued at any time.
Who can sign a salary certificate?
An authorised person of the employer, usually the HR head, the accounts head or a director. Some banks and consulates ask for the company seal as well.
