What is a stock register?
A record of every receipt and issue of an item, with a running balance, so the book stock can be compared with what is physically on hand.
How often should stock be counted?
As often as the business and its lender need. Many count a sample of items every month and everything at year end, and the auditor often attends the year-end count.
What should be done with a difference?
Find the cause first, then adjust the book with an approved entry. Do not adjust silently.
